Classic movie actress and "Oomph Girl" Ann Sheridan was arguably the most beautiful woman to ever grace the silver screen.

However, although she was immensely popular in the late 1930s and 1940s, today Ann Sheridan has largely been forgotten -- like so many other great actresses from the golden age of movies.

As well as being extremely appealing to the eye, Ann Sheridan also had a way with a line. She could hold her own and them some with some of biggest male stars of the day.

In January of this year, I had the pleaure of interviewing Ray Hagen about Ann Sheridan.  Ray interviewed Ann in 1965 for an article he was writing for Sceen Facts magazine.

Time, of course, eventually steamrolls and crushes everything in its path -- but sadly in Ann's case, her cigarette addiction hastened the process.

Throughout her life, she was a very heavy smoker (she even appeared in advertisements for Chesterfield cigarettes). She often smoked in her movies and many of the photographs were snapped of her with cigarette in hand.

Cigarettes tend to rob people of their looks, their well-being and often their life. And sadly, Ann was to pay the ultimate price for her addiction.

"When the cancer hit her, she never had a chance," wrote James Cagney in his autobiography.

Ann Sheridan died on January 21st 1967 at the age of 51 -- one month shy of her 52nd birthday.
